Thank you for this very helpful and your number 1 is what I just found out a few weeks ago after not getting back to tumbling after nothing worked last September this summer I collected a load of red jasper in st Cyrus Scotland and I knew I needed to try and figure out what went wrong before trying the jasper. Your number 1 is the reason, crap polish and also not enough tumbling media as my obsidian was white on the ends from being bashed! We have zero stores here in the uk and few online retailers making it so hard to get lapidary things. This video was very helpful.😊

Hey there, I like your channel. I’m also in New Mexico. I’m up in Taos. I was wondering is there any social media that I could reach at to pick your brain on tumbling? I suck at it and I want to try my demon Pacific Tumblr but not sure how.

In all the years I was into lapidary, I never tumbled stones. Far preferred to slab stones between 6- 9mm thick and then decide what shapes I would cut from them; many were freeform shapes. When I was first into lapidary and learning how to cut-polish stones, I did the standard shapes which became, for me., boring. That's why I turned to freeform. Also I wasn't in business.

I only use rocks I Find on beaches if I think they're pretty thick on the Tumblr I Go through all 5 stages and Then 2 stages of the polishing powder. The kit I purchased also has this square spongy things that will do the final polishing. If they don't come out shiny but I like the shape I will use an acrylic substance to put a shine on them. Then I wrap them in metal and sell it as jewelry.

Hi! Great channel!! Question are you taking the rocks that had fractures and didnt shine up as well after the Polish stage here ? I was wondering if that happens if you just run them for a little while in stage one then toss them back into the Polish stage after a burnish that should fix them right?

I’ve bought 2 of these exact same tumblers. Different company, but exact same tumblers, kit, grit, mesh bag, even the instruction manual (only change is the company name on the manual) one motor burnt out within about a 2 months maybe less. The other I’ve had for about 3 weeks and still works fine.

This hurts me to watch a little... I've always polished by hand with cloth and sometimes polish paste and gentle grit. I like having the little bumps where the fossils stick out in the finished product :)

I agree with you opinion. I have many raw minerals around the house, but i keep the polished ones near me... For fidgeting and inspiration 😅 I really love being able to see the transparent layers of rock when polished. The shadows inside are just too good to turn down <3
